A Prayer as We Train up Children

Based on the text 2 Timothy 1:5-7

O Lord, give us each day the stability of faith to be parents who cling to You.  You alone can refresh and revive us; we will look to You each morning, for You alone can work in our hearts and the hearts of our children.

May our children grow up to embrace this faith as their own, knowing You, enjoying You, and continuing to grow in grace and knowledge and love.

As Paul knew that Timothy’s faith was sincere, so may we know how to pass on this faith in sincerity–grant our children an insatiable desire for Your Word, for true fellowship, and for walking with You all the days of their lives.

As Lois and Eunice passed on this faith, so work in us that we may!  We want to point our children to Your cross, Your resurrection, Your power and glory and unchanging Love!  Teach us, that we may pass on Your truth.   May we remain teachable, humble, and full of awe and wonder at who You are.

As Timothy was told to kindle afresh the gift from You–may we find ways to kindle afresh your gifts and callings to us.  May we treasure this calling to raise up children for Your glory, and not merely endure it.  May we find times to pray, read, journal, fellowship, worship, and otherwise be refreshed in Your presence.

As we learn how to kindle afresh, may we teach our children–that when they launch out into the world, they will be walking with You, seeking wisdom and purpose and truth in You, living for Your glory rather than the world’s.

We look to Your Spirit to work in our children–as You can grant them faith, so fill them with Your spirit of power, love, and discipline.

Amen.
