A Prayer to the Shepherd of Our Souls

A prayer from John 10 and Psalm 23:

Jesus, You are the Good Shepherd.  You know your own sheep, and we will hear and follow You.  You know us deeply, more deeply than we know ourselves.  You know our hearts; our desires and fears and apprehensions.  Thank you for protecting and keeping us–You will be faithful to lead us in paths of righteousness for Your name sake.    I trust you to shepherd my children even as You have shepherded me, the children You have entrusted to me.  Surely Your goodness and mercy will be with us every moment.  Lead us beside still waters and green pastures.  I  grow weary when I think about a summer without our “normal” and a fall filled with unknowns.  Yet You restore my soul.

Your rod and Your staff are our true comfort.  Search us and know us, reveal to us what sinful ways we have tucked away in our hearts.  We want to crucify those ways, and enjoy your redemption.  We want to bask in Your goodness and righteousness, in Your care and protection, in the warmth of Your love and the promise of abundant life.

Not for our sake LORD.  Not so that we are “mother of the year”  or “coolest mom ever” or “best neighbor” or the one others are jealous of.  NO!  But that You would be glorified, that we would be the fragrance of Christ in our homes, in our children’s lives, in our communities.  Unto You, O Lord.

We need Your refuge.  We do not know when the storms of life will pass, but trust You with the details.  We want to hear your voice and follow You, help us to filter out the hype and chaos, that we may walk in Your wisdom.
